What product engineering means to us

Four things. Together or on their own.

A contract has a delivery date. A product has users and a future. We start wherever you are.

Understand

Writing code has become cheap. Knowing what to build has not. So we look closely before we start: who will use the product in the end, what does it have to do for your business, and what is the right first step. We facilitate the conversations with everyone involved, translate vague wishes into concrete goals, and design the architecture for them. We sit at the table, ask questions and push back when it matters. In the end you know what needs building — even if you build it somewhere else.

Build

Most products fail not at launch, but at their first success. So we build on a foundation that holds when more users, more data and more requirements arrive: architecture, frontend, backend and delivery from one team small enough to know each other. We are most at home where a lot of data meets a lot of interfaces. And we do not take on work we cannot stand behind.

Carry forward

A product that runs is not finished. And almost none of the ones earning money today were built for today’s requirements. We stay involved — as much or as little as you need. Including code somebody else wrote. We read first and rewrite second, rather than starting over: a product that has grown usually has good reasons for its quirks, and you want to know them before you throw them away.

Enable

Most service providers make money by being irreplaceable. We think that is the wrong incentive — your product should be able to go on without us. If work is happening in your team but nobody knows when anything will be done, we help build the process too: planning, coordination, handovers. We anchor the knowledge in your team, not in ours. That our clients stay for years anyway, when they would not have to, is the proof we like best.

We care about the product. Even when it is not ours.

We are a small, fast-moving company with a passion for good software design and architecture. The foundation of our work is the long-standing collaboration with our clients. We sit at the table when requirements are set, ask questions, and push back when it matters.

We are especially at home in the music industry. We know the infrastructure of German music distribution from the inside, from the DDEX industry standard to catalogues with millions of tracks — and we take that experience into other sectors.

Since 2018 we have worked from the Gründersaal coworking space in Tübingen, and since 2024 with our friends at Generation Digitale on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg, enjoying both the atmosphere and the cross-pollination.

8 steps, 1 point of contact

From your idea to a product.

Getting to know each other
01First conversationListening first: what is coming up, what would need doing, what could working together look like. If you already have material — a concept, requirements, sketches — send it over beforehand and we will work through it before we talk.
You getA written assessment: what we understood, what is still open, and whether we are the right people for it.
02Analysis & conceptNow we go deeper: we work through what the product has to do and how your data fits together — and clear up the questions only you can answer.
You getA concept to read through, an overview of your data, a proposal for the tech
03Proposal & planThe concept becomes a proposal: what we build, what we deliberately leave out, and in what order — so nobody has to guess what was agreed.
You getA proposal with a fixed scope, time estimate, and what is not included
