The Music Promotion Network, MPN for short, brings new music from the labels straight to the editorial desks – as the leading platform of its kind in the German-speaking market. Labels and distributors submit their new releases; music desks in radio, TV, print and online access them around the clock. In Germany, a label reaches more than 150 radio stations through it, including ZDF and ARD radio; in Austria almost every music desk in the country; in Switzerland all SRF stations and more than 30 private broadcasters. The platform is operated by Phononet GmbH, a joint venture of the German music industry.
We are building the new MPN platform: domain concept, architecture, implementation. Release and media management, promo distribution and newsletters are built by us, along with the interfaces to the shop system, the connections to industry systems and delivery to the broadcasters. Uploading music, booking a campaign, paying, delivering – that used to go through support, today the companies do it themselves. They also manage users, rights, credentials and formats on their own. Every uploaded file is automatically turned into the right format, in broadcast quality and protected with a watermark. We have been looking after the existing platform since 2019. We know this domain and its pitfalls.
In 2019 we took over the frontend, in 2021 the backend followed. The code had been around for years – we worked our way into it instead of starting over. Since then we have looked after the entire application: new features, support, bug fixing. Until 2023 the focus was on new development, today it is on maintenance. The platform runs.
Infrastructure, hosting and server operations sit with Phononet, as does the product direction. We connect third-party systems, but we are not responsible for them.
